Sometimes we all take ourselves too seriously. While life is serious and we need to be focused and disciplined to achieve the goals we set, we also need the balance of a lite heart.
A lite heart allows us to laugh at ourselves. We all experience blunders and while we naturally try to cover up and overcome them, if we laugh at ourselves, we progress forward more quickly.
Think about some of the mistakes you have made. Aren’t some of them comical? Haven’t you told stories about your blunders? We laugh and tell people stories of how we totally messed things up. We laugh at our silly mistakes. The secret is to laugh sooner!
It may seem odd but we may be happiest when we laugh at our past mishaps and turn them into entertainment for others. What if I told you that laughing at yourself can actually make you healthier? It is true, science has said that it relaxes our nerves and can improve our health.
Science also tells us that when we poke fun at ourselves, we exhibit greater levels of emotional well-being. We appear more self-confident and are more attractive to others when we can tell a funny story about ourselves. Those that can laugh at her/himself reflect a higher degree of self-worth, and that is an attractive attribute.
Laughter releases dopamine, increases blood flow, strengthens the heart and leads to increased optimism. That enables us to thrive when we are faced with challenges and adversity.
Go ahead, tell funny stories about yourself and laugh. When things go wrong, try to laugh sooner.
