Life can be hard. We all have to deal with ups and downs. We all have adversity in our lives. The true fact is, it’s not getting knocked down that’s the issue (we all get knocked down), it’s what we do when we get back up. Get up with determination and the understanding that the stuff that goes on in our lives is just one phase of our lives.
Do your best to stay in an even emotional state—don’t get too high when things are going well and don’t get too low when you face adversity. All great achievers experience setbacks. You will not be an exception. Know this is the normal process of a successful life. Stay as even as you can throughout the emotional ups and downs.
Embrace adversity; it is a part of the life process. Adversity is actually our friend. Nothing great is ever achieved unless you have overcome adversity. Nothing. So, when you set out to do something great, such as raise a family, start a business, get married, become a millionaire, start a charity, change jobs, play in that big game, etc., I PROMISE you that you will have one or more adversities to deal with. It’s a law of nature.
Understanding this changes your world, because when an adversity or a problem hits you, rather than seeing it as evidence that you cannot achieve what you set out to do, you will now recognize it for what it is … a challenge. It’s a challenge that you will overcome by analyzing the situation, thinking through all the information around it, putting a plan together to overcome it, and executing the persistent activities that will overcome it.
Go on the Internet and search something like “people who achieved success after adversity” and you will see story after story of people that had major difficulties that they had to overcome to become who they are today. One of the greatest understandings you can have is knowing that adversity (or multiples of them) is not the signal to tell you that you will not win, that you will not reach your objective, but simply the natural process of what it takes to be successful at what you aim to do. Adversity is your friend and your feedback mechanism. Without it, you will never know the adjustments you need to make to reach your goal.
