Destruction

Today my heart is broken, shattered into a million tiny pieces. See, today we went to help in Kentucky, a state ravaged by a tornado. I was not prepared for what lay before me.

The truth is, you can see things on the news or scroll past pictures on Facebook, but you never really grasp the full extent of the damage until you see the destruction firsthand.

For me, watching people pick through what was once their home was sobering. House after house, person after person, the frailty of this life became ever more apparent.

One moment people were in their homes waiting for Christmas; the next, they feared for their very life. This stark contradiction stirred emotions inside me I didn’t expect—feelings of sorrow, compassion, and a need to act, to help in some small way.

As we were helping, I began to wonder, if this had been my town, how many people would have gone to hell? Being a rhetorical question, I pondered for what seemed like forever.

My thoughts made me shutter. I wonder how many people have turned their backs on God, making a choice to exclude Him from their lives, thus sealing their eternal destiny.

See, the truth is, there is a very real Heaven and a very real hell, and each person has a choice as to which of these destinations they will spend eternity in.

The Bible is clear on what you must do to get to Heaven. Romans 10:9-10 says, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:9-10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If I learned anything today, it is that this human experience is fragile. In the blink of an eye; it can all be over. We get no more second chances. No more time to make amends. No more redos. We just face judgment.

Are we ready? How about our friends, coworkers, neighbors, and family?

Father,

I pray in the name of Jesus Christ Of Nazareth You bring comfort to the people affected by this disaster. I pray you help them heal and move forward. Surround them with your love and grace and draw them close to you. Amen
