Drop the passivity

Drop the passivity! The active pursuit of regular relationship intimacy with the Holy Spirit is the key to unleashing His inner-working power (Ephesians 3:20) and winning the war against the flesh.

MOST BELIEVERS HAVE ONLY PASSIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE SPIRIT

Most believers have only passive relationships with the Holy Spirit. They know Him, alright. They were fully indwelt by Him at conversion, of course. But only occasionally do they now experience relationship intimacy with Him. Something the pastor said in Sunday’s sermon tugged on their heart. The week before it was the choir’s rendition of a favorite hymn that left them teary-eyed. And last month there were those moving testimonies during the baptismal service. All resulted in intimate encounters with the Holy Spirit. But all were spaced days or even weeks apart. And, as is usually the case, all were passive. All were dependent on the Spirit to initiate the encounter. Most believers rarely think (or even know why they might want) to initiate an intimate encounter with the Holy Spirit.

ESCAPE REQUIRES A PRO-ACTIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SPIRIT

The Way of Escape Battle Plan is all about initiating intimate encounters with the Holy Spirit. And not only on Sunday mornings while seated in a church pew. A daily filling of the Spirit. Or even multiple times a day. As often as the sheltering presence of the Spirit is needed in the war against the flesh. The active pursuit of regular relationship intimacy with the Holy Spirit. This is the key to unleashing His inner-working power (Ephesians 3:20) and winning the war against the flesh.

WAR-WINNING RESULT #1: REDUCED NUMBER AND STRENGTH OF “INCOMINGS”

Regular, daily viewing of the Spirit-anointed apps rewires neural pathways, which, in turn, significantly reduces both the number and strength of enemy “incomings.” In the Way of Escape Case Study, these reduced-strength attacks of the flesh occurred only about one-fifth as often, once cleaner neural pathways were established.

WAR-WINNING RESULT #2: MIND RENEWAL WITHOUT ACCOUNTABILITY

Complete mind renewal was also achieved without ever having to enlist the aid of an accountability partner or group (see page 117 of A Way of Escape for my definition of complete mind renewal). The Way of Escape Battle Plan relies solely on the Holy Spirit’s power to deliver believers from lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). As of this writing (March 2023), this sexually healthy, single Christian male has not “acted out” sexually for 100% of days over the most recent 48 months. Truly, a Holy Spirit Miracle!

A GAME-CHANGING BOOK HAS ARRIVED

In A Way of Escape, readers learn how to drop the passivity. Readers learn how to initiate regular relationship intimacy with the Holy Spirit. Readers learn how to step up the degree to which they “walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16). They learn how to build a library of Spirit-anointed, flesh-diffusing apps. Apps that are uniquely fitted to them, and their unique Spirit-filling triggers (Ephesians 5:18b-19).

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

The still-struggling now have another option. The still-struggling now have fresh hope for discovering that long-sought-after way of escape from sin and temptation (I Corinthians 10:13). A way that—because it is wholly Spirit-powered—does not require enlisting the aid of an accountability partner or group. Truly, a game-changer!
