Reflections of a Believer
Exhaustion & Coffee
A few weeks back, I was exhausted! I had been working nonstop between my full-time job, parenting, and recording the Audible version of my book, The First 30 Days.
So, while taping, I drank a coffee. What a mistake that was! At 1:30 in the morning, I was still wide awake. It seems what I intended to help me through recording had turned detrimental to me.
Have you ever had that happen? You choose with the best intentions in mind, and then WHAM! That choice comes back to hit you square in the face like a fast-flying fist from a supervillain.
Hindsight is always 20/20. We all make decisions that turn out differently than we expect them to. This truth is why it is so important as Christians to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The Bible tells us, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” Psalms 143:10 NIV
If we allow the Spirit to lead and guide us just as this verse says, we will be led to level ground. Notice this verse does not say we will be planted on level ground. No, it says you will be led there. This leading is a process. One that will take time.
The truth is, depending on the choices you have made, being led onto level ground can take both time and work on your part. Although our God is a loving (John 3:16) and forgiving God (Psalm 86:5), He is also a God of order, and He expects us to do our part, but He doesn’t expect us to do it alone.
According to John 14:26 NKJV, the Holy Spirit is our helper. He is there to help guide us and create in us a new person. But as with anything else, we have a choice. We can walk in the leading of the Holy Spirit, accept His help and live on the level ground.
When we choose to follow His path, the Holy Spirit helps us navigate our choices. In fact, Proverbs 16:9 NIV says it like this, “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
On the other hand, we can choose to follow our own path and ignore the Holy Spirit. When we do so, we begin walking a path where we make decisions with a blindfold on. This leaves our fate up to chance instead of divine guidance.
As for me, I choose to lean on the Holy Spirit. What do you choose? Do you want to make decisions on your own or with the help of the one that created the heavens and the earth?
Father,
We come to you today and ask that you help us depend more on you. We pray that you help us hear the Holy Spirit even when making the small decisions in life. We plead the blood over our lives and pray you use us in a mighty way.
