Years had passed since Zacharia and his wife, Elizabeth had prayed for a child. It seemed almost impossible now. While they knew God had not forgotten them, their faith had wavered since, let’s face it, they were not young anymore. Maybe God had seen what they could not, and a child was not his best for them. Still, there was a lingering hope that God would show up and bring a miracle out of the pain they had experienced.
Notice with me Zacharias’ response, “Whereby shall I know this?” Seeing an angel was not proof enough that what God promised would come to pass. Zacharia let his circumstances become the focal point of his life and failed to trust God’s character. How often is that our story? We become so consumed with what is happening around us that we forget to stop and focus on the righteousness of God. What God has promised, he will fulfill. There is no doubt that his promises are yes and amen.
Today, take the challenge that no matter what 2023 might bring, you will determine to trust God’s character and not your circumstances. The prayers you prayed are still before the Throne of Grace. They have not been placed in the archives of Heaven. God is still alive and well, willing to answer your prayers if you have faith and trust him to bring the answer to pass in his timing. No matter how many years or times you’ve offered your prayers up to Heaven, the answer to your prayers have not been forgotten. It is on the way! Look through the eyes of faith and see that what God promised, he will fulfill, even if an angel has to show up to convince you.
