Reflections of a Believer
I Miss September 12th, 2001
I just saw a picture that said, “I miss September 12th.” it took me a moment to comprehend the reference. Then it hit me, on September 12, 2001, we were united as a nation.
The big bad bully had sucker-punched us, and we all stood in unity and solidarity.
We sat glued to the news as imagines of the carnage replayed over and over. People were jumping from windows in an effort to escape burning to death: blood and debris-covered people running for their lives. And, the towers falling with so many still inside.
Yes, I too miss September 12, 2001. The day where a group’s hate for our nation brought us together as Americans—the day where the threat from the outside caused us to be better on the inside.
I miss September 11, 2001, because today, September 12, 2021, it isn’t the hate from the outside that is killing our great nation. It is the hate from the inside that is killing it.
Democrat Vs. Republican
Christian Vs. Atheists
Vaxed Vs. Unvaxed
The list goes on and on. We, the American people, many of whom stood together in 2001, are willing to fight and belittle each other in 2021. We are willing to end lifelong friendships, disown family, belittle strangers, and casually say someone who believes differently than us deserves to die.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!
Why are we acting like spoiled little brats dividing our nation one against another, destroying what so many brave men and women died to give us?
Have we forgotten that we are Americans? A nation of people who stood together in love and compassion. A nation that collectively mourned the loss of so many; A nation that was able to put aside our differences and come together.
Today I can truly say I miss September 12, 2001. I miss being united as a nation against the evils of this world.
So today, I will pray. I will pray for unity. I will pray for peace. But, most of all, I will pray we, as a nation, get back to a September 12, 2001 mindset that has compassion for their fellow man.
Father,
I humbly come before you and ask that you heal our nation. Take from us all the hate and division that is tearing us apart. In Colossians 3:14, Your Word tells us love binds us together in perfect unity. I pray we get back to love. Love for our fellow man. Love for ourselves. And love for you. Amen
Don’t forget to like and share!
