Reflections of a Believer
Love
I was watching Joyce Meyer’s show this morning when something she said caught my attention.
She stated, “Love has to trump everything.
Everything has to come back to love. Otherwise, there is no such thing as being free.”
Her words were so pure and so true that I couldn’t get them out of my mind. See, lately, I have been pondering how our great country could be in such a divided mess.
How did we go from the nation that is a beacon of light to the country that is a laughing stock? I realize that as humans, sometimes we want to blame it on those who are not like us. But the reality is, this is not a religious issue, a political issue, or even a race issue. It is, in fact, a heart issue.
The Bible tells us, “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” Proverbs 10:12 NIV
See, regardless of our affiliations, if we do not love our fellow man, we are no longer free. We, in essence, are slaves to our hate. Hate for a party, a people group, a religion, and so much more.
Oh, some people may say, I do not hate, but hate is more than anger and rage. Hate is wishing something ill on someone, treating someone poorly because you think differently. And dare I say, a form of hate is bashing others when you have not privately taken your dispute to them.
See, hate can manifest itself in many ways in our lives. It can close us off. It can make us bitter. And it can cause us to do or say things that are against the Will of God.
And hate always leads to bondage of one form or another.
So, today I ask you to search your heart. Ask God what hate are you harboring. Ask Him to help you overcome the thing that is plaguing you and keeping you from true freedom.
Father,
We come to you and ask that you search our hearts and show us where we are projecting hate for others. Please cleanse our minds and our hearts of all the wrong misconceptions we harbor. Please help us to see people as you would have us see them. Help us to have freedom against our hate and our biases. Amen
Don’t forget to like as share.
