Reflections of a Believer
The other day, I spoke of how Psalms 119 was packed full of wisdom. The truth is, not only Psalms 119, but the rest of the Bible is packed full of unimaginable wisdom, wisdom that will give you guidance for your life.
As I was reading this Psalms I was amazed at all the golden nuggets that it contained. There was so much wisdom packed into those lines that I realized it would take months, maybe years, just to unpack the wisdom contained within.
Contemplating this fact, my mind began to wander as it often does. I thought of all the verses in this chapter that meant something to me and all the time I spent in my study Bible trying to get to the original meaning of the verses.
Then I realized, not for the first time; there is more to this relationship with God than just listening to or reading a few chapters of His Word. His Word is full and alive and holds all the answers to life. The truths just have to be unpacked.
How do we do that? By studying. Taking the time to dive into His Holy Word and get on a more personal and intimate level. A level where we learn more about Him each day. A level where we know inside and out the basic truths of His Word.
This intimate relationship with Him is the whole package. It is in that intimate time where we find His will for our lives. This Holy place is where we find peace. It is where we learn and grow. It is where we become a new creation, not because of us, but because of who lives in us.
Truthfully, to live in this intimate state, we must allow Him to become greater in our lives. John 3:30 NIV says it like this, “He must become greater; I must become less.” As we allow Him to increase, we start to see our circumstances through His eyes, not our own. It is then we can lean on His strength.
The only way to live this type of intimate life is to put forth the effort to know Him. We must take responsibility for our own learning in Christ. Just like Mary in Luke 10:38-42, we must sit at the feet of Jesus and learn from Him.
Now, if you are not putting forth the effort to have an intimate relationship with Him, don’t come under condemnation. Just make an effort to get to know Him on a more intimate level. Spend time in His word, in prayer, and in a faith-filled, Bible-preaching church.
The most amazing thing about our God is He will meet you where you are, and He will welcome you with open arms.
We pray that you show us where our intimate life with you is suffering. Help us to draw close to You, to sit at Your feet as Mary did. Help us to desire a closer walk with You. And, please break any chains of condemnation off of us for our past decisions. Help us to move toward You with a clear mind and heart. In the name of Jesus Christ Of Nazareth, we pray these things. Amen
