Over the last few months, I have been stepping back some from the news on many platforms. I cannot bear to see our country ripped apart from the inside out. Instead, I chose to pray, fast, and grow closer to God.
I wonder how many Christians are taking this approach? How many of us are hitting our knees and interceding for our county like Abraham did for Lot(Genesis 18), Zipporah did for Moses (Exodus 4:25), and Jesus does for us(Hebrews 7:25)? How often do we even ask for God to heal our land?
I will be honest and say, up until recently, I have not been fervently praying for our nation and our leaders. I have taken for granted the fact that we, a nation founded on Christianity, will always be a Christian nation. I never imagined we would be in a position to wonder if our rights would be stripped away.
So, I stuck to my prayer list. You know, the one that I have purposed in my heart to pray for. The one that seems to grow longer with each passing minute, but I never thought to add our country to that list, not until things started to fall apart.
Isn’t that how it goes sometimes. As humans, when things are going well, we don’t give a second thought to what we need to do to maintain our momentum. Our eyes are blinded to the undercurrents that are threatening to pull our way of life out to sea and drown it.
Well, my eyes are now opened and unfortunately, no matter how hard I try to shield myself and live in my hallmark world where everyone is in love, and no one dies, those days are far gone. Today is a day to face facts.
We are at war.
We are not at war with a person or even a group of people. We are fighting a spiritual battle. The Bible tells us, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV
See, it is time to go to war in the spiritual realm for our country. It is time to pray for those in authority, even if we don’t like them or their policies.
The Bible tells us, “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.”
Mark 3:25 KJV Our house is divided, and it will fall if we do not do something.
It is time to be the Christians we have been called to be. It is time to pray for unity, understanding, and the ability to work together to find common ground. It is time to stop depending on other people to solve our problems and take our problems to the one who has the power to do something about it; God.
So today, I challenge you to pray. Pray for our country. Pray for our leaders. Pray for our youth. Pray fervently that our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and so on will be afforded the same opportunities we were. The opportunity to worship, live, and love without fear of being persecuted.
Grab a verse and stand on it. Our God is a faithful God, and he cannot lie.
We humbly come before you today and intercede for our country. We pray for all those in power. Please turn their hearts and their minds to You. We pray You protect Your people just as you did Joshua and his men in the Battle of Jericho. We say no one will be lost, and our country will turn back to you in a mighty way. Please surround us with your grace, peace, wisdom, and protection. Place inside us, the burning desire to intercede. Amen
“but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” Exodus 20:6 NIV
