Reflections of a Believer
Psalms 119 Wisdom
As part of my devotional today, I was reading Psalms 119. At first, I was a little overwhelmed by the sheer length of the chapter. As I read, it seemed to continue and continue.
I would read for a moment and then be distracted. Once I purposed in my heart to focus and read the whole chapter, verse after verse stood out to me. Intrigued, I pulled out my study Bible to dive deeper into the meaning of these verses.
Wow!
Psalms 119 is packed full of wisdom from the first to the last word! So, today, instead of writing a long post, I am simply going to share with you some of the verses that caught my attention.
But first, let’s pray.
Father,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we pray that You give us a heart to understand the verses You put before us. We ask that You put a desire deep inside us to know more of Your Word. Help us keep our desire to walk in the path You have laid before us. Amen
Here are the verses that caught my attention. I will be posting them as pictures throughout the day. Please comment on them and tell me what you gleaned. On each picture, I will post what I took from the verses.
“Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law. I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, Lord; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.”
Psalms 119:29-32 NIV
“May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.”
Psalms 119:74 NIV
“Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you, yourself, have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore, I hate every wrong path.”
Psalms 119:97-104 NIV
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it that I will follow your righteous laws. I have suffered much; preserve my life, Lord, according to your word. Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws.” Psalms 119:105-108 NIV
“Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.”
Psalms 119:116 NIV
“Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.”
Psalms 119:165 NIV
“I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.”
Psalms 119:176 NIV
As you can see, with just the few verses that I picked, this Psalms is packed full of wisdom. Honestly, I only scratched the surface of the golden nuggets contained within.
So, if you have time, dive into Psalms 119 and gather the riches contained within.
Don’t forget to like, share, and comment.
