So many of us will be “going” to church tomorrow (as opposed to “becoming” church tomorrow—but that’s a whole other Bible study topic).

But what happened when the earliest Christians “assembled” at Sunday evening (or other forms) of gathering?
To me, a clear-cut pattern emerges.
- Disciples gather.
- They talk about where they’ve seen Jesus since the last time they gathered.
- Jesus shows up, even if some don’t believe.
- And Jesus manifests something comforting joy-giving that gives them a boost for living with an intense focus on him until they meet again.
Is this what happens when we simply “go” to church?
If not, how can we improve the time we spend in assembly so it does?
