When you hear the words, “Life Transformation” what comes to mind? An external transformation or an internal transformation? Most of the time when we think of transformation we think externally. Maybe it’s because we live in a society where our minds are conditioned to think about the external, the things we can see.
I remember a few years ago when I heard the words, “Life Transformation” I automatically thought of my entire life being transformed on the outside. I thought of a total life makeover. I thought that if my life was transformed that meant that I would have everything I wanted and desired. Everything would be beautiful and new.
Although there is some truth in transformation making things beautiful and new, life transformation isn’t about the external.
Transformation is defined as a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance. Since we live in a society that always focuses on the things that are seen, our minds think of a change in external form or external appearance. But this definition never says anything about transformation only being external.
As I have grown older I have discovered that true life transformation actually starts on the inside not the outside. In order to experience true life transformation you have to start on the inside. What does that mean? That means you have to start with your heart, because everything you do flows from your heart (Proverbs 4:23). In order for your life to be transformed, your heart has to be transformed.
This requires you facing the hurt that you are holding onto and hiding from everyone, hoping that it will eventually disappear. This requires you to take a step of courage to seek healing from the heartbreak you have experienced. If your heart is hurting your life will be hurting. If your heart is whole, your life will be whole. Because everything you do starts with the heart.
When I chose to hold onto the hurt from my past heartbreaks and hoped time would heal all, I found myself in the cycle of heartbreak. I couldn’t escape. Since I was holding onto the hurt in my heart, everything I found myself doing was based off of my hurt, which kept me in the cycles of heartbreak.
It wasn’t until I took a step of courage and began healing my heart that my life started to transform.
When your heart is healed, your mind is healed, and when your mind is healed, your beliefs about yourself are healed, and when the beliefs about yourself are healed your behavior is healed. When your heart is hurting from things you have never healed from, your motives are rooted in hurt. But, when your heart is healed and whole, your motives are rooted in pureness and good intention.
Life transformation only happens when we choose to first address the hurt from the heartbreak. You have to take a step of courage and face the hurt you have been holding and hiding, in order to experience a total life transformation.
