R. Tyler Scott
Since I am new to the blogging world and to the world of traditional publishers, some words and identities are strange to me. You see, I am a simple man who God called to write. But a few days ago, I started hearing about the term influencers. The term was gaining traction in the secular world, and I wondered about how I could become one. I did some google research and I found out that there are some influencers who make upwards of two to three million dollars a year just telling people that they like a product. I started to think about all the things I liked and wanted to make a plan on how to monetize that. Then it hit me that I am being a first class hypocrite. You may say why would I say that? I’ll tell you, it’s because I have the greatest thing that the world needs to hear about it and I am wasting it. No, I’m not talking about my writing or any of my books. That comes at the end. I’m talking about the love of Christ and what he has done for me. You see, professional influencers get paid because people follow them on instagram or facebook or whatever social media sight they use. When you get enough followers, advertising agencies and product managers come to you and give you money to talk about their product. Sounds like a sweet gig and it is for them. But what I’m talking about is why don’t we as Christians act like we are getting paid to talk about Jesus, because we are. My bible says lay up for yourself treasures in heaven where moth and rust can not corrupt and where thieves do not break through or steal. (Matthew 6:20). Every Christian who makes their life’s goal to make money is not realizing that serving God has the greatest reward program both here and in the world to come. I’m not saying Christians should not try to make money. What I am saying is that we should use anything we are given to tell people about Jesus. Whether it is time or money or opportunity. We should be living an influencer lifestyle everyday. When I was trying to monetize how to be an Influencer, I should have remembered that I have the greatest treasure program in the world. All I have to do is tell people about Jesus and his love for me. That is what every Christian should desire, to be an influencer of the world. Unfortunately, we allow the world to influence us instead of the other way around.
Btw, my new book SON, MOON, AND STAR is available wherever books are sold online and soon in brick and mortar stores. Until the next time, always remember, if you don’t have Jesus, you don’t have anything.
