We all can be spiritual leaders. All walks of life should lead people with the proper principles. This concept is something more business people need to embrace. If you’re not a businessperson, you still need to be a spiritual leader to have a happy life and be a positive force in our world.
What is a spiritual leader? A spiritual leader is someone who balances a blend of attributes. They hold people accountable, they help people with continuous improvement to inspire growth, they are committed to winning, they are empathetic, they genuinely care about their people, they are transparent so people trust them, they listen very well, they are willing to have the difficult conversations in a productive way, they respect diversity and different opinions, they allow others to be themselves, they constantly monitor their progress, they create an environment of fun, they have a process they follow, and they are very disciplined.
How would you like to work for someone like this? Most people love working in this environment, because they grow, and they feel they’re a bigger part of the mission. If you’re a parent, what if you displayed these attributes with your children? How much happier and more successful would they be? What if you’re a spiritual leader? How much more fulfilled would your congregation be? What if you’re a husband/wife/partner? How much more engaged and happier would your partner be with you?
Spiritual leadership dramatically improves the performance and satisfaction of those you lead—employees, children, etc. It’s the new way to create a culture where everyone wins.
The opposite of this tears down love and performance. Think about the parent who doesn’t genuinely listen to their children’s ideas or beliefs and is always telling them what the child should or shouldn’t do. Make no mistake about it; the child is tuning you out emotionally.
What if you’re a business leader that only cares about the company performance and doesn’t deeply understand the human aspect these principles provide? Regardless of the success you may be having, you are not reaching your potential. The trust of family members, children, employees, life partners, and business partners is built in drops and lost in buckets. Execute these spiritual leadership attributes and you will build a bucket of trust, love, and great performance. How can you be more of a spiritual leader today?
