Why Jesus said Go
Mark 16:15
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Examining the question of Why Jesus said Go after he rose from the dead and gave this directive to his disciples who were eyewitnesses of His majesty takes us back to the Lord’s prayer and also to the ancient book of Psalms by the famous king of Israel, king David.
King David knew a little bit about being a shepherd, as well as being shepherded through wars within and without. As we contemplate this question, and within the last few days or weeks, Iranian missiles have landed in the old city of Jerusalem in close proximity to the patriarch David’s tomb. The sweet psalmist of Israel scribed the famous phrase that would echo through the centuries and be a bulwark of hope and faith in times of peace and war both individually and collectively, the Lord is my shepherd. Therefore, when Jesus said Go, as of the master it is revealed that by the knowledge of my righteous servant, He shall justify many. The old hymn “When He was on the Cross I was on His mind” reminds us that the savior son of God Jesus Christ was fulfilling part of His Fathers’ master plan in bringing many sons to righteousness and planting the heavens.
The disciples pleading with the Lord sent from heaven by God to teach them how to pray received strategic instructions about divine communication. The great balance between the new and old testament teachings of let your words be few for God is in heaven and we upon earth aligned by pray without ceasing and be instant in prayer. Jesus taught them to pray “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” This is one of the keys to unlocking the question of Why Jesus said to Go. God sent Jesus into the world to save the world. A rescue mission from Heaven above to Earth beneath. So just as Jesus came into His own and His own received Him not, so those who preach the gospel go to those who may not even realize the God of all creation is reaching out to save them and then shepherd them.
Matthew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
The wonderful redemption of mankind was in motion as Jesus had overcome temptation in the wilderness and began to proclaim the kingdom of heaven.
Hebrews 7:16
Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
Christ fulfilled the law as there was a time before Christ was revealed that God gave Moses the law as a school master. Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). Jesus ushered in a new hope of everlasting life to as many as would believe the truth that Jesus is the Son of God, that he was crucified and died for our sins, and that He arose on the third day. He was seen of 500 after His resurrection from the dead and ascended up in a cloud and was received up into heaven. This Easter celebration encourages us to pray and go where Jesus by the Holy Spirit leads to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth for others to receive this kingdom prepared of their Father for them. So that one day all the saints by the hope of the resurrection and Christs’ return can be together with the Lord in a new heaven and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.
2 Corinthians 4:14
“Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.”
