In Hebrew, wonderful means a wonder, a miracle, a marvel. This word represents something unusual and extraordinary. God giving the world his only Son certainly qualifies HIM as unusual and extraordinary. Nowhere in history will you read of any other god giving the world their only child. This child that God gave to the world would grow up to be a Wonderful Counselor to humanity through His death and resurrection. Through the work of Jesus Christ, we are given the opportunity to have a right standing with God till eternity.
One aspect of Jesus’ counseling ministry is empathy. He can empathize with us since, like us, he walked the earth and experienced life the same way we experience it. God did not spare his Son from any of the difficulties we live through so that he could honestly know how to counsel us. The Bible tells us that we have a High Priest who faced temptations to show us the way of escape; through the temptations. If Jesus had not come to earth in the form of a child and grown into a man, He would not have known how to lead us as we trod this earthy path.
Identifying with his creation, God made way for all who come to him through his Son, Jesus Christ to be adopted children of the heavenly family. There is no longer a wall between God and us. Jesus’ work on the cross has torn down that wall. With this newfound identity, as both God and man, Jesus can provide counsel that is relevant to our lives. Through sharing his experiences in the Gospels, we can draw strength and hope for whatever life throws at us. No matter what you face, rest assured that Jesus has experienced what you are experiencing and can guide you through life’s difficulties safely.
